Royal Queensland Art Society Workshop Festival

In April, the Royal Queensland Art Society Petrie Terrace Gallery is excited to be hosting a 2-week workshop festival! As a part of this festival, we will be holding a variety of workshops that cover a range of themes, artistic mediums and all-age groups: there is something for everyone! To kick off the festival, we will be hosting an Open Day at the gallery on Saturday, 5th of April from 10:30am. This is a great opportunity to meet the workshop tutors and find out more about the workshops, as well as find out more about other local art groups in Brisbane. Water Stories art experience

Come join us for a unique event at the Downfall Creek Bushland Centre. Have a yarn and learn traditional First Nations customs and painting techniques with Our Yarn (Ngalin Ayeye) at Urban Utilities Visual Art Water Stories Experience. This is an interactive and engaging painting workshop for children, led by Our Yarn, that raises awareness about the urban water cycle and its deep connection to First Nations culture, histories and stories. On the day Arrive 10 minutes before the start of the event to check in. All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sun-smart clothing and sunscreen as some shows may take place outside. This course is suitable for young riders who can ride confidently on two wheels. Through riding-based games and fun activities your child will learn the skills needed to have fun off-road and on the bikeways. Presented as part of Council's Cycling Brisbane program.

Junior Explorers: Nature journaling (9 years +)

Environment Centre staff will guide children aged 9 years and up through some fun and simple exercises to learn the basics and discover the joys of connecting with nature through nature journaling. Nature journaling is the practice of recording your interactions with nature on paper. You can use sketches, paintings, poetry, species lists, numbers, graphs, cartoons and more. It's a fun, easy, relaxing practice and encourages mindfulness, hones observation skills, and cultivates a sense of wonder. Please bring your own basic sketch/art book so you can keep your creations in one place; other materials provided. After the workshop, visit the Environment Centre or remain in the reserve to continue nature journaling. On the day of the event Arrive 10 minutes before starting time to check in with staff at the Environment Centre. Wear sun-safe clothing, sunscreen, fully enclosed shoes, and bring insect repellent. Bring your your own sketch/art book or pad; other materials provided. Limited seating available. Bring an outdoor chair if you need one. Bring water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site.Note: This activity will go ahead in light rain and can be delivered indoors if required. Events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.
