Bookings essential. Come and bring your senses to life. See the trees, hear the birds, touch the leaves and breathe in the fresh air. Come along to hear some stories and songs about the senses, engage in some creative activities that explore the textures of the park and play some games that will get everyone feeling active and healthy. This is a Chillout event suitable for young people 3-8 years .

Explore the Ocean with Virtual Reality

Looking to explore our amazing underwater environments? With full 360 degree videos of real ocean environments, come and experience the virtual underwater world whilst learning facts about marine life, playing fun games and learning how to take care of our environment! Requirements: Arrive 10 minutes before the start of the event to check in at Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre. All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Bring drinking water and a snack or picnic lunch as there are no food outlets on site. Note: Please be aware that if you are very sensitive to motion sickness, this program may not be suitable. This event is held indoors.

Wild edibles walk

Wild edibles walk

Go wild and discover edible Australian native plants at Boondall Wetlands reserve. Join environment centre staff on a short guided tour along the Tulla-yugaipa dhagun track (place of useful plants) showcasing some of the wild edible plants used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and colonial peoples, as well as some other surprising uses. Please note collecting plants is not permitted in this protected conservation reserve. After the walk, join a short tasting session where you can try some foods prepared using native plants and find out more about some of the ‘bush food’ native plants suitable for backyards and balconies in Brisbane. Requirements: Please arrive 10 minutes early to check in with staff at the environment centre. Wear sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Bring water and a snack as there are no food outlets on site. Note: This event will go ahead in light rain and can be adapted for indoors if required. Events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.

Junior Explorers: Nature journaling (9 years +)

Environment Centre staff will guide children aged 9 years and up through some fun and simple exercises to learn the basics and discover the joys of connecting with nature through nature journaling. Nature journaling is the practice of recording your interactions with nature on paper. You can use sketches, paintings, poetry, species lists, numbers, graphs, cartoons and more. It's a fun, easy, relaxing practice and encourages mindfulness, hones observation skills, and cultivates a sense of wonder. Bring your own basic sketch/art book so you can keep your creations in one place; other materials provided. After the workshop, visit the Environment Centre or remain in the reserve to continue nature journaling. On the day of the event Arrive 10 minutes before starting time to check in with staff at the Environment Centre. Wear sun-safe clothing, sunscreen, fully enclosed shoes, and bring insect repellent. Bring your your own sketch/art book or pad; other materials provided. Limited seating available. Bring an outdoor chair if you need one. Bring water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site.Note: This activity will go ahead in light rain and can be delivered indoors if required. Events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.

Junior Explorers: Wetland Detectives (7-12 years)

We don't always see animals but we often find evidence of them. Build your wildlife detective skills on this fun and engaging walk all about tracks, scats, and habitats! Explore the nature reserve on a guided walk with environment centre staff, learn some bush observation skills, identify some local native animals and plants, and discover simple actions we can take to help protect the wetlands and our bay. After the activity, visit the environment centre and explore the beautiful natural surroundings of Boondall Wetlands reserve. Bush Kindy: Library Stories and Rhymes

Make memories with your little ones as they take part in story-time and rhymes in the natural environment. Bush Kindy is for children aged 3-5 years, alongside their parents and carers. This session is presented in partnership with Brisbane City Council Libraries and First 5 Forever. First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government, co-ordinated by the State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with local government. Bush Kindy sessions can go for up to 45 minutes and themes vary each week. On the day of the event: Arrive 10 minutes before the start of the event to check in at the centre. All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sun-smart clothing, sunscreen, fully enclosed walking shoes and insect repellent. Bring drinking water and a snack or picnic lunch as there are no food outlets on site. It is recommended to bring a spare change of clothes as sessions may include messy play.Note: Events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.
