Bugs galore nature art!
Join the fun and dive deep into the fascinating and amazingly diverse world of bugs and other insects and mini-beasts at this imaginative art and craft workshop. Children aged 7+ can get creative, have loads of fun, and create their own weird and wonderful army of cool critters! Requirements: All children must be supervised by an adult throughout. Arrive 10 minutes early to check in and secure your booking. Wear sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed shoes, sunscreen and insect repellent. Bring drinking water and a snack or picnic lunch as there are no food outlets on site. Note: activities are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.

Zillmere Library garden club
Join other community members who enjoy gardening to share ideas and knowledge at the informal meet-up and learn about library resources and events with a gardening focus. Experienced and beginner gardeners welcome.

Junior Explorers: Shorebird Adventure (7 -12 yrs)
Join us for an exciting combination of creativity and fun as we explore the world of shorebirds! In this hands-on activity, participants will learn about shorebirds and their habitats through crafting and play. They'll create their own shorebird craft and engage in a fun, interactive game that brings these birds to life! After the activity, visit the environment centre's interactive displays or explore the beautiful natural surroundings of the wetlands. On the day of the event: Please arrive 10 minutes before starting time to check in with staff at the environment centre. All children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Little Explorers: Compost critters (6 years+)
What tiny creatures might be living in the compost? Are there only worms in a worm farm? Find out by joining this informative hands-on activity where you can get up close and personal to investigate and identify some 'compost critter' mini-beasts. Discover some fascinating facts, learn about the important environmental jobs performed by these tiny animals, and find out why compost critters are nature’s superheroes! After the activity, visit the environment centre and explore the beautiful natural surroundings of forest reserve. Arrive 10 minutes before starting time to check in with staff at the environment centre. All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Wear sun-safe clothing and fully enclosed shoes. Bring insect repellent and sunscreen for later outdoor use if required, but please ensure you don't have any on your hands when meeting or touching our friendly compost critters! Meet some of the Environment Centre’s resident insects and other mini-beasts at a fun bug show, then test out your detective skills on a short walk investigating bugs and their habitats. School holiday autumn butterfly activity hub
Enjoy the cooler weather by exploring the gardens and getting to know plants with special relationships with butterflies. Take inspiration from the amazing shapes of falling Autumn leaves to create seasonal butterfly art. Wander the butterfly plants trail and see whose eating what; or identify the parts of a butterfly and colour them in to represent local butterfly species. Bring a picnic lunch and make a day of it on the lawn. Children under 16 are to be accompanied by an adult. For more information, email [email protected]: Meet at the Temperate lawn. This workshop supports the Botanic Gardens' commitment to creating a plant loving community, dedicated to putting the plant back into planet.

Little Explorers: Yoga for Kids
Join a family-friendly yoga session for beginners aged 5 years and up. Play, stretch, and move while soaking up the natural beauty of the bushland setting. Participants can do what they can and go at their own pace. After the yoga session, visit the environment centre or you might like to continue relaxing in nature by exploring nearby walking tracks in the reserve. On the day of the event: Arrive 10 minutes before starting time to check in with staff at the environment centre. Bring a yoga mat per participant (you may bring a towel, but a mat is preferred). Wear sun-safe clothing, enclosed shoes, sunscreen, and bring insect repellent. Bring water and a snack if required, as there are no food outlets on site.Note: This activity can be adapted for indoor delivery in the event of rain. Water Stories art experience
Come join us for a unique event at the Downfall Creek Bushland Centre. Have a yarn and learn traditional First Nations customs and painting techniques with Our Yarn (Ngalin Ayeye) at Urban Utilities Visual Art Water Stories Experience. This is an interactive and engaging painting workshop for children, led by Our Yarn, that raises awareness about the urban water cycle and its deep connection to First Nations culture, histories and stories. On the day Arrive 10 minutes before the start of the event to check in. All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sun-smart clothing and sunscreen as some shows may take place outside.
